An odd combination of dishes, but I had a few different cravings to satisfy.
- Tuna sashimi with kaiwarena (daikon sprouts)
- Zarusoba (cold buckwheat noodles) with a soy-based dipping sauce, flavoured with thinly sliced negi (green onion) whites, sesame seeds and shichimi (seven spice mix)
- Store-bought Chinese cabbage pickles
- Broccoli and potato salad, flavoured with ponzu (soy sauce with sour citrus juice), olive oil and thinly sliced shiso (perilla)
The potato salad was something I just invented. I love the new potatoes out now and really wanted to make a cold side dish, but but I don't like mayonnaise so a regular potato salad recipe wasn't going to work. Somehow it turned out really well, and next time I make it I'll take measurements and write up a proper recipe.
There's nothing wrong with odd combinations when it involves satisfying cravings!. Amy your site continues to amaze me. I'm learning new things each day and I know that I'll be more confident with cooking next time when i'm living in Japan. Sometimes I used to miss some of the western comfort foods like good pasta dishes, lamb chops and chicken roasts, but now that I know that all of the ingredients ARE available..you just have to look for them! I feel much happier! THANKS TO YOU!!:)

Glad to be of service!
And I would also have a very hard time if I wasn't able to buy western ingredients. I love Japanese food but then again I love everything else too...
